Whiskey of choice - This is what other Dark Horse competition entrants are currently drinking.
Having put one of our Quinita Bar carts up for grabs – We wanted to know what whiskey you think deserved a place on your alter of refinement. We’re big whiskey fans here at Dark Horse – With an appreciation for both Scottish Malts and Irish blends. It always makes a fantastic gift, perfect to share with that special someone and has the deep rejuvenating properties. We hope you find one or two new whiskeys to try.
Enjoy!
Ardbeg: Is singularly rounded where whiskies from several cask types familiarize themselves with each other. The result is a whiskey with smokey power, mellowed by a delectable, smooth sweetness. Hallmark Ardbeg peat, dark chocolate and aniseed are wrapped in smooth, silky butterscotch, black pepper and clove.
Glenfiddich 15 year: Using a Solera system common in the maturation of quality sherry, 15yo malt from three different types of casks is married together in a wooden vat, which is constantly topped up to ensure the quality is maintained. This whiskey has beautiful flavours of giner, cinnamon, sherry, marzipan and oak. Gold Scotch Whisky Masters 2011
Monkey Shoulder: A superb blended malt whisky from William Grant, made with single malts from three famous Speyside distilleries. Very malty, creamy delivery with a suggestion of berry fruit. Juicy toasted barley, cloves and butterscotch. Manuka honey, hot-buttered-toast and dried apricot develop. This is our competition winners whiskey of choice and a firm favourite at Dark Horse.
Nikka: The “Black” is a Pure Malt (Blended Malt) whisky which is characterized by powerful peat, rich taste and firm flavor. This is a great dram, a blended malt made up of whisky from Nikka’s Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries. It’s a must have Japanese whiskey – We recommend adding this to your bar cart.
Let us not forget the Irish.
Jamesons 18YR: This blend of two pot-still whiskeys and a single grain is matured in oloroso sherry casks and finished in bourbon wood for six months for a brilliantly complex pot-still character.
Tullamore Dew: This is a resoundingly popular Irish blend. With flavours of vanilla, blackcurrant and apple – This is a staple daily drinking blend.
