Launch date: 1November, 66 Albert Road, Woodstock Exchange Building
Dark Horse furniture, apparel and homeware have moved into a new space in the newly refurbished Woodstock exchange.
Flying on the success of the recent Johannesburg pop-up stand, STAD, Dark Horse have moved into a new retail space that better mirrors their locally-invested and innovative design thinking.
“We needed a larger space that suited the growth of Dark Horse, and at the same time spoke to our ‘live for design – made in Cape Town with love’ ethos. As the brand and business has grown, it’s evolved so that we’ve needed to expand our thinking, and the space we have to work in,” says Jarrad Nelson and Lise du Plessis, Dark Horse founders.
They believe that after a long search and some lucky encounters, they have found the perfect spot, which houses both their studio and their retail space separately: “The Woodstock Exchange space encompasses a whole new designer lifestyle that mimics our approach and creative thinking. This is a growing platform for Dark Horse goods, as well as a fantastic, new place for people to come to and support local talent in general.”
The Exchange, previously known as the Woodstock Industrial Centre, has a reputation as a hotbed for emerging creatives, and has recently been developed into a space for local retailers and studios.
“There’s a huge rejuvenation going on in Woodstock right now, and it’s great to be a part of that. What we have here is a community of designers, retailers, all sorts – working together and playing off each other’s strengths. So the end product is a really organic space with cutting-edge Cape Town product. It’s our launch, but a number of the other new stores will be open on the night, as it’s very much a community we’re trying to build,” says Jarrad Nelson.
The newly refurbished spot remains a hotbed of creative thinking and artistic credibility, but with a fresh new look. Lise du Plessis says that what this means for Dark Horse customers is a level of quality craftsmanship blended with a mixture of passion, genuine materials and sustainable design thinking. “The same quality design that people have come to expect from Dark Horse, but with even more jaw-dropping new pieces.”
Dark Horse will be trading from their new retail space from 29 October 2012. The launch takes place at 66 Albert Road, Woodstock on the 1st November.
