Bringing a contemporary look and feel to the Thelema wine tasting room, Dark Horse was recently assigned to provide some bold new furniture pieces for the much-lauded estate’s new tasting room extension. Thelema Mountain Vineyards lies on the south-easterly side of the Simonsberg Mountain, 530m above sea level. The high altitude and rich soil in this region make it ideal for grape growing. A drive along the scenic Helshoogte Pass brings you to the gates of the estate. As you enter, large expanses of vineyards span as far as the eye can see. Views of the mountains offer the perfect backdrop, while thickets of trees add to the beauty of the estate’s surrounds. The original manor situated on the estate was restored after it was purchased in 1983 by Gyles Webb and his family. In 1988, Thelema released its first wine collection. By the middle of the 90s, the family-owned estate’s signature range sold out within a month after release. This very quickly put Thelema on the map, soon becoming one of the country’s most sought-after wine estates. With a contemporary manor-house, state-of-the-art wine-making facilities and a breathtaking location, Thelema Mountain Vineyards is a must-visit on any tour of the Cape Winelands. When the Thelema wine tasting room was extended, Dark Horse was commissioned to provide carefully selected furniture pieces that reflect the estate’s distinctive aesthetic. The relaxation area is positioned around the fireplace, creating an inviting space to sample Thelema’s selection of fine wines. The Thelema manor is a prime example of modern architecture, with a design that strikes the balance between function and style. The dining area is flanked by large floor-to-ceiling windows that provide views of the vineyards and gardens. Dark, sleeked tiled flooring, plenty of natural light and ample space create an easy flow within the area. Key interior pieces were chosen for the main tasting room as well as the private tasting room, fusing comfort and style. The look encapsulated Thelema’s appeal. An understated combination of warm neutrals and black tones were brought in through tan leather couches and armchairs. Wooden coffee tables and a sophisticated, minimal dining area continued the clean lines of the updated Thelema wine tasting rooms. Experience the New Thelema Wine Tasting Room. While the estate produces a wide selection of wines, it is best known for its Cabernet Sauvignon. This complex wine has notes of ripe blackcurrant, dark chocolate and pencil shavings – the perfect blend of sweet and dry. It pairs well with grilled beef and other red meat. The Thelema Cabernet Sauvignon is available in a range of vintages from 2001 to 2018. Visit the new tasting room to sample classics such as the Thelema Sauvignon Blanc 2020, Thelema Chardonnay 2017, Thelema Cap Classique 2016, Thelema Shiraz 2017, Thelema Merlot 2018, and many other fine wines. Wine tasting is available at a fee of R100 – bookings are recommended. The estate is open for visits and wine sales on Monday to Friday between 09h00 and 17h00 and Saturdays between 10h00 and 15h00.
