Dark Horse recently assisted in providing furnishings for the world-class Ernie Els wine estate in Stellenbosch. Reopening after an incredible revamp by RHI (Rumour Has It Interiors), the revamp saw the newly updated, 360 integrated space claiming a sought-after award in the acclaimed Luxury Lifestyle Awards, winning the award for the category Best Luxury Commercial Interior Design in South Africa.
With its award-winning status, the estate needed furnishings that matched its contemporary new look. Our customized Lo Fi Armchairs added the perfect touch to the lounge areas, fusing comfort and modern style.
The Low Fi armchairs take their name from the music genre, with a downtempo pace. Clean, modern lines are balanced by soft, quality leather cushions. The 12-degree angle and carefully positioned base allow for optimal support and relaxation. The chairs are available in black, tan and black, grey and black, and olive and black.
Strategically positioned between tables, these chairs take their inspiration from quiet reflection, sipping on fine wines and enjoying the spectacular views from the large, floor to ceiling windows of the Ernie Else wine estate lounge area.

The estate is ideally located in the Helderberg region, in the heart of the Stellenbosch famous Golden Triangle. North-facing rows of vineyards running in an east-west direction make the most of the area’s sunlight. A dramatic backdrop of mountains adds even more beauty to the Helderberg area, making it one of the most picturesque destinations along the Cape Wine Route.
Amidst this scenic setting, wine enthusiasts can enjoy an award-winning wine selection named after the South African golf icon, Ernie Els. Winemaking legend Louis Strydom brings his extensive expertise into every bottle.
With four collections – Signature, Major Series, Big Easy and Proprietor’s, each comprises a range of wines that are made with the character and prestige of the estate’s namesake.
Although the estate is relatively new in the literal sense, opening its doors in 2005, the buildings have maintained their traditional Cape Winelands heritage. The recent revamp sought to bring the estate into a new era, further cementing its reputation as a must-visit on the Cape Wine Route.
The modern exterior makes full use of the estate’s ample sunlight, while the updated interior strikes the perfect balance between contemporary design and warm, welcoming spaces. Ample use of wood and other natural materials create a contemporary take on the farmhouse-style interior, further adding to the ambience.
The open-plan, inviting lounge areas and tasting rooms form the heart of the estate. This is where visitors have the chance to relax, indulging in fine wines and delectable treats. The estate offers a selection of tasting packages.
